Bobby's Bomber project starts!

Our 1965 C-10 Chevy pickup project finally gets underway. We finally started the project after months of planning. The idea of Bobby's Bomber started after we had purchased the truck from a gentlemen named Bobby.  Turned out he was undergoing treatment for cancer. He has hopes of restoring the truck. We asked why he was selling the truck, he said " well, I am running out of time " That hit us like a ton of bricks!
It didn't take my business partner  Robb and I very long to decide that we wanted to do something special with this truck. We contacted the American Cancer Society and told them of our wish. They said "Yes, lets do it " With that, we started calling, and everybody wants to help. As of now, our sponsers include, LMC Trucks, CV Products , 1320 Design,  Charlotte Aircraft and FIY Garage. Many more are in the works, TBA at a later date.
So, with great pride, we were able to kick off our project today. We delivered the truck to FIY Garage. FIY has been kind enough to join in, letting us use part of there garage space to diassemble the truck.Click on http://www.fiygarage.com/ to find out more!
The diassemble process will be ongoing for the next few weeks. If you you would like to help, please contact V1 Wraps ( 704-773-1676 )or FIY Garage ( 980-207-1825 ).
The Bomber, ready for the tear down!

The friendly crew at FIY Garage

Stay tuned for updates as Bobby's Bomber takes shape!

F 85 Rocket Car part3

The numbers weren't to bad on the dyno but we knew we had to change the intake manifold, distributor and wires and carb. Off came the edlbrock Q4B, which didn't flow unless you were over4500 rpm. ( not good for an Oldsmobile ) and a stock cast iron intake took it's spot. A brand new edlbrock preformer carb and a MSD 6A box with distributor were installed.
The next step with the drivetrain was the trans. The turbo 400 needed some freshening up, for that it was taken to Rodgers Automotive in Chantily Va. They did an excellent job putting there touches on it. The one thing I was afraid of was getting to much stall in the converter. I went with a 22-2400 stall, but as it turned out, not nearly enough. I had to powerbrake the car in drive, it would not idle unless you had the idle turned up so high so you were killing u-joints when going between drive and reverse and park!
The car had a 3:23  posi, so because of the drivability of the car, I found a 3:91 posi. With that rear, this car will launch!
Our original plan was to build the car so we could race the 1/8 mile, which as it turned out worked quite well. My sons and I will take the car to the track and the rule is , whoever quailifies the car the fastest, gets to run the car that night. Well, my oldest of course always does the burnout from hell ( mainly because he's not     paying for the tires! ) so he get a quicker time. Our times were respectable, but the end of the first season we had tweaked the times down a little.
In this off season we have done some work that we haven't tested to see if there is any positive results. I installed a 3000 stall converter. The drivabililty is much better. 90/10 shocks on the front and adjusted the carb. ( Which actually I have an original quadrajet on now. )
So, stay tuned for the first visit to the track!
